We’ve been focused on all the wonderful colours, flavours and super foods we can create as Rok Blox. In the lead up to Valentine’s Day we thought we’d get back to basics, except, like everything we do at Rok Blox, there’s nothing boring about our basics!
Hot balmy nights filled with Latin music and salsa dancing on the hot terracotta tiles as the waves roll in on the eastern side of the South American Coast. That’s what our new Chili Choc Rok Blox reminds us of - after all, that’s where both chocolate and chili originated from.
Chocolate – the original sin of sweet treats
The Aztecs associated cacao with the god Quetzalcoatl, who they believed had been condemned by the other gods for sharing chocolate with humans. The Aztecs drank chocolate cold. It was consumed for a variety of purposes, as an aphrodisiac or as a treat for men after banquets (what!?). It’s believed Montezuma was observed by Hernan Cortes to be drinking pure gold – some kind of chocolate drink - which gave him power over women (again, what!?).
Chili –chocolate’s original best buddy
Native Americans commonly added chili to their chocolate drinks, both hot and cold. But remember – it didn’t contain sugar, so it was effectively a savoury treat. The sugar in chocolate masks the heat of the chili, rendering it undetectable until the sweetness has passed. And this is true of our Chili Choc Terrazzo, which has a lingering warm sensation on the outer edges of the tongue.
We’ve concocted Chili Choc Terrazzo for those who love chocolate in all its brown forms. It’s the first in our new range of milk chocolate Rok Blox. Because both chili and chocolate have aphrodisiac powers, we felt we needed these Blox in the family in time for the annual festival of romance. But Chili Choc Terrazzo will be be staying all year round. In case your man needs some after your date night banquet!
