Shipping. It's part and parcel of online retailing. For shops that trade from cyberspace, it's the only way sellers have to get your products to you after you've made your purchase. Typical bricks and mortar retailers can bypass shipping costs by offering click and collect services, but for little operations like Rok Blox, shipping costs are an unavoidable part of making a sale. So we thought we'd share a little of the background to shipping to explain our flat rate shipping fee.
Our last business was cupcakes, which we sold in markets. Every market day we'd check the weather forecast religiously to make sure our buttercream icing wasn't going to melt into a puddle on the table. As soon as the mercury went up past 22 degrees Celcius, we'd pull the plug on selling in the market. On the days where the temperature went dangerously close to 22, we'd breathe a heavy sigh of relief with every sale. Because once the cupcakes left our hands, our job was done.
Not so with Rok Blox. Like cupcakes, Rok Blox are a perishable item. Even though we temper our couverture to perfection, our products are still at the mercy of the hot Australian sun. So we package our Rok Blox carefully to combat the effects of the weather.
Each Rok Blox is wrapped in food-grade cellophane bag, then packed in a small box, nestled up next two one or two other Rok Blox - because there's safety in numbers. Then we wrap the box in thermo-bubble wrap - silver bubble wrap that repels heat while keeping your Rok Blox nice and cool. We then place the thermo pack in a shipping box, surrounded by either honeycomb packing or shredded kraft paper, to provide an extra buffer zone against the weather. On the outside of the box, we place a fluro label advising Australia Post not to leave your package in the sun, which we all know is death to chocolate.
THEN it's time for the actual cost of postage. We are pleased to partner with Australia Post for all our deliveries. We believe they've managed to hold to pretty good delivery times, despite the pressures of lockdown delivery volumes. And so far, every Rok Blox package has reached its destination in tip-top shape.
So our delivery fee covers all that effort to keep your products safe until they arrive in your hands. We want you to be delighted when you unwrap your Rok Blox - not disappointed. As we head into the Australian summer, we will look at including a chiller pack in Rok Blox shipping to add another layer of protection to your order.
